Sensational Shibori 28th March £65 10am - 4pm
Shibori is the ancient Japanese technique of using stitch resist, clamping, pleating and scrunching into white fabric before dyeing it blue to create wonderful patterns. On the day we will use perlé thread and running stitch to create gathered patterns in white cotton fabric. We will also learn techniques involved clamps and wrapping fabric round bottles to create patterns. Shibori is traditionally navy blue and Angela will give you navy blue procion dye, dye products and full instructions to give you the confidence and knowledge to dye your white fabrics at home. No actual dyeing takes place in this workshop. All the resources are included in the price of this workshop. This workshop is suitable for all levels of ability.
Painted Landscapes £60 April 18th 10-4
In this workshop you will be using pigments made from the woad and weld plants, and combining these two will give you shades of green. You will learn how to add the pigments to different textile mediums and different ways of applying them to your fabric to create extra detail. Once we have dried the paint you will layer it up with two layers of cotton muslin and learn about different hand stitches to create texture into your work. You will use kantha stitches and a range of different embroidery stitches to enhance your work. All materials are included in this workshop including fabrics, threads, plant pigments, textile mediums and tiny sequins.
Kantha Printed Hare £65 10am -4pm 30th May 2020
In this exciting workshop you will combine the centuries old techniques of Indian wooden block printing and kantha stitching. You will learn how to make a template of a hare (A3 size) before using fabric paints and wooden printing blocks to print inside the design onto white cotton fabric. Tips will be given for precise printing.
Once dry the hare will be layered up with a thin wadding, backing fabric and tacked together. After this you will use cotton perle 12 thread and kantha stitch techniques to infill the hare. Lots of stitching help will be given and ideas for adding further embellishments such as sequins. You will go home with information on how to complete your stitching including different binding techniques and hanging sleeves.
This workshop is suitable for all levels. All resources are included in the price of this workshop including paints and a pack of sequins. There will be a variety of paint colours to choose from.
